Angel of the North:

The sculpture is called Angel of the North. Designed by sculptor Anthony Gormley, this 66-foot angel has a wingspan of 177 feet and is constructed of corten steel. Since its installation in 1998, it has become one of the most talked-about works of public art of all time. Gromley said the meaning of the angel is threefold: to represent the coal miners who have worked underground at their construction sites for two centuries, grasping the transition from the industrial age to the information age, and being the focus and fear of our evolving hopes and fears.

Alexander Calder:
